today we were driving and maddie said "mommy does everyone have one car?" i didn't know what she meant by that...but then she said "like i have my car, calvin has his car, etc...." i said, yes, why are you asking (thinking she's buttering me up to the idea that she wants another car??). she never told me why she was asking but she did say "we all have the same brand car, but they're all a little different." and she's right!!! they all have "little tikes" cars that are slightly different. i had no idea that she understood what a brand name is!! i also still have no idea why she was talking about that.

persistent, creative, observant, and curious are four good adjectives that describe maddie. last night we were at a restaurant waiting for brian to join us and maddie kept asking "when is daddy going to be here?" i told her he was running late and i was tired of her asking me that question so she better stop. then she started saying "when are we going to see daddy's car?" she proceeded to come up with different ways to ask me when he was going to be there. i was so annoyed but had to laugh!

tonight she wanted me to put one of her dvds in the dvd player. i asked her to go choose one and bring it to me. she said she was too cold to get out from under her blanket. i told her i was too tired to get up, so if she wanted to watch, she had to go get it herself. then she started saying "the dvd case isn't that far, maybe you can just run over there really fast and get it."

we were in a public restroom the other day and she asked me why there were 2 garbage cans in the bathroom. one was on the wall and one was a big one on the floor. she asked me why they have two garbage cans, what is each can for, why does one have a lid and the other doesn't, why is one black and the other one silver, etc. this wouldn't be that amazing to me except that she questions EVERYTHING like this and notices EVERYTHING! she can tell the difference between every type of SUV. she'll say 'that car is like ours, that car is like nana's, that car looks like karen's, that car looks like miya's, etc.'

maddie was telling me about school again today. she gives me the usual update on who was absent. she said keito wasn't there today. i asked her if he was sick and she said "no, he went to japan." she said it in such a matter-of-fact way, i had to laugh. as if she even knows what/where japan is!

maddie now understands (i think) what a dream is. she told me she had dreams one night and i asked her what she dreamed about. she said "auntie nessie was here and i told her i love her." so sweet!!

adrienne has started putting blocks/toys/anything she can find INTO boxes, etc. it used to be that she could only dump things out of boxes, but now she loves to put things in. small little achievements like that are so exciting, even to a 2nd time mom. she has also started using her thumb and index finger to feed herself cheerios and rice chex. only about 1/2 actually end up in her mouth, but she's getting there!

adrienne has been sooooo cute lately. whenever i sing to her, she claps her hands at the end of the song. she does a hitler style wave to everyone we pass in public (even when they're not even looking at her). i love looking at her face in my rearview mirror as we drive around. i see her looking around with a smile on her face soaking up the world around her. everytime i pick her up she gives me little love pats on my shoulder and when she's being shy with new people, she nuzzles her face into my chest. she's growing up so fast. i'm trying to enjoy every moment.

the other day maddie was giving me her usual update about school and she said that "keito is the cutest boy in my class because he has curls like chiara's (her cousin)." i asked her if keito is really handsome, more handsome than daddy and she said "yes." i said oh no, daddy is going to be so sad. she promptly replied by saying "no he won't...daddy is a little handsome." hee hee

maddie had her first trip to the dentist last week. it was fine other than she threw up 20 minutes after the appt. i think the fluoride rinse made her naseous. the dental hygenist gave maddie a pair of rubber gloves and maddie has been so obsessed with them! she plays with them all day; she pretends she's a daycare worker changing her dolls diapers, then she pretends she's a cleaner, then randomly she'll come up to me and say "hi, i'm maddie. do you like my gloves? would you like to shake my hand?" strange! i'm worried that she's going to have some kind of glove fetish when she's older...

adrienne is ALL OVER the place now! she rolls, crawls backwards, scoots, and lunges her way around the room. i hear this is when it gets hard with two. maddie is already getting annoyed with adrienne getting into her things, pulling her hair, constantly following her and reaching for her. i'm gathering my energy for this new stage!!!

the other day brian and maddie were having a little spat and brian was getting very irritated. out of the blue maddie said "daddy, when i go poo-poo in a diaper it comes out really slowly. isn't that funny?" brian said "that's not actually that funny maddie." then maddie said "well, it's a little funny, isn't it?"

another time when maddie was being naughty and ahving a spat with brian, maddie suddenly stopped crying and said "daddy, como estas?"

maddie knows how to make us laugh even when we're furious with her!

she's also such a big girl now. i was putting adrienne down for a nap and i heard maddie walking around downstairs and i was worried about what she might be doing. when i got downstairs, she yelled over to me "mommy i put the bread away." it was so cute!

adrienne has started really showing she understands what's going on. when i try to put her in her highchair, she locks her knees making it impossible to put her in (she doesn't like eating). when i try to feed her she shakes her head no vigorously. when i say 'no, no' to her she also shakes her head vigorously. she waves 'hi' and 'bye' to people regularly. when we're in the car and i say 'we're almost home adrienne,' she gets a big smile on her face and starts getting excited. when we arrive at the parking lot at maddie's preschool she also starts smiling and getting excited because she knows we're picking up maddie. when i carry her down the stairs, she starts saying "aaaaaaaaaaaa" because she knows the bouncing will make the sounds come out as "aaa, aaa, aaa." occasionally when she's crying she'll moan "maaa,maa." even though we've been through all this before with maddie, i'm always amazed at every new little trick adrienne does.
