  "that's so funny mommy. they're giving us a bag to hold our bags." (as a checkout lady put the gift bags we were buying into a shopping bag).
  
  "are these the same AAA batteries we bought for our otoscope?"
  
  maddie: "mommy let's do some boy activities today"
  mommy: "what are 'boy' activies maddie"
  maddie: "you know, maybe we could work?"
  mommy: "i do work all the time!"
  maddie: "no, i mean boy work. like...checking emails and doing work on the computer."
  (we're going to have to work on the stereotypes already forming in her head!)

  if adrienne takes a short nap, i usually go in and rock her to see if she wants to sleep more. sometimes she falls asleep in my arms and when she wakes up, if she's done sleeping, she'll wipe her hands (doing the all-done sign). it's so cute! then yesterday, she woke up in my arms and started waving at me with a big smile on her face.
  
  this morning she was in her crib and i said, adrienne, we're going to change your diaper. where are your diapers? she pointed at the diaper bin. i asked her if she wanted to play outside and she looked outside. i asked her where her hairclip went and she started scanning the ground around her (it had fallen out). i ask her if she wants to eat breakfast in the morning and she'll start crawling to the stairs to head to the kitchen. at music class, when it's time to put away the instruments, she'll crawl over and put it in the bin along with all the big kids. it's so amazing how much a not-quite 1 year old can understand!
  
  she is incredibly active ... she can crawl onto our (very high) bed, using one of her chairs as a ladder. we're going to have to get her into rock climbing classes, because climbing is definitely her favorite activity!
